I’ve had rather a collection of hobbies over the years, cake decorating, painting, yoga, knitting, bread making, flower arranging, wine tasting, gardening and pottery to name a few.
Dear Mr TT patiently listens as I explain the finer points and merits of yet another new interest. As I explain the depth I’ll be planting our garden bulbs or the importance of a Downward Dog, he turns down the volume on the rugby and pretends he knows what on earth I’m going on about. You see, he will never understand any of this. He has just one true love in his life (other than us and rugby) and that, is skiing.
Back in 2006, Mr TT was a bit shell shocked to realise that he was falling in love with a non-skier. So, a few months after we met, he was off on a long before planned boys holiday and I realised that this was my chance! Buck my ideas up, show him how much I adored him and sneak off on a holiday with my pal to learn to ski. That my friends, is true love.
My oldest friend and I had a fab week and at the end of it, I could make my way down a blue run with the best of them. Have that Barnsey!
So, the following year I was ready (apparently) to be part of the annual ski trip with three blokes. Off we went and all was going so well until..
That’ll be a couple of fractures to my tibeal plateu then. Oops. A few pins in my leg and a week in a French hospital, 2 months before our wedding. OOPS. Poor old Barnsey sat by my bedside the whole week, whistfully staring up at the mountain he so wanted to be whizzing down, but never leaving my side.
The following year, I decided I’d get back on the horse and off we went, down the slopes with some pals. It went well and I was very proud of moving on past that minor smashed leg incident. I wouldn’t say I loved the skiing (let’s not talk about that accidentally finding myself on a black run incident) but I loved the chocolat chaud, hot tub and raclette, so that’s basically the same thing – yes?
Anyway, since then I’ve managed to distract Daddy Barnsey for the last few years by keeping him busy with a pair of babies. But it turns out that they have their Dad’s taste for adventure..
It was only a matter of time before the slopes were back on the agenda, with the tiny two in tow. The big Daddy is desperate to share his love of the slopes with G&H and also to remind me how to love skiing. We’ve spent a lot of time this year thinking of a first ski trip together and what would be the perfect adventure for us as a family.
Mark Warner, the home of family ski holidays are looking for blogging ambassadors. As you can imagine, we’d love to take our first family ski trip with them. We’ve heard so many amazing reports of their ski holidays from friends, tales of places where there’s untouched white snow, in-house creches, ski tuiton for everyone who fancies it, delicious food, spa treatments and dinner (with wine) for the grown-ups. Me making Mr TT happy by getting back on the slopes but sneaking off for afternoon tea and a spa treatment too? Oh it’s the dream!
So, we very much hope to be able to show you more skiing adventures next year.. Are you a fan of speeding down the slopes or more of a hot chocolate lover like myself?
Let’s be friends..
