About this recipe

What’s so great about slow cookers is they hold a lot, so you could make this as a big batch of sauce and freeze in individual portions to save even more time during the week.

All you have to do is cook the pasta later.

Feta and Tomato Pasta Ingredients notes

  • Feta cheese – I’ve also made this meal with Boursin Garlic and Herb Cream Cheese, which was so good
  • Pasta – You can use your pasta of choice but I’d recommend something like rigatoni, penne, fusilli or gemelli. You can go for your family’s preference or what’s in the cupboard

How to make Feta and Tomato Pasta

A slow cooker filled with cherry tomatoes and feta cheese, ready to cook.
  1. Put all of the ingredients (apart from the pasta and basil) into the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 2 hours or LOW for 3 hours. At the end, blend the sauce.

2. Boil the pasta on the hob, drain and add to the sauce with the basil. Stir well.

Substitutions

  • Feta – This cheese was used in the classic TikTok feta pasta recipe that went viral last year, but I’ve also made this meal with Boursin Garlic and Herb Cream Cheese, which was so good
  • Vegetables: The beauty of this recipe is how simple it is, so you don’t need much more for taste. But if you want to sneak some extras in, something that cooks quickly like spinach would be good

Leftovers

In the fridge You can keep this recipe in the fridge for 3 days. Reheat fully before serving.

You may need a splash of water when reheating to loosen up the sauce.

Freezing I’m not a big fan of freezing pasta as it can go quite mushy when defrosted and reheated.

All that said, there’s nothing wrong with freezing for lunch if you have leftovers, it’s just not quite as good as fresh or reheated from the fridge.

Top tips

Blending the sauce

I recommend blending as I think it really improves the texture of the sauce. I’ve made this lots of times now and when it’s not blended the sauce just isn’t creamy or flavourful enough in my opinion.

As a middle ground I like to scoop out a few spoons of tomatoes, blend the rest and then put them back with the pasta so you get a few chunks of tomato bursts.

I use this hand blender for this job but if you don’t have one, mash it all up with a fork instead.

Boil the pasta beforehand

I tried cooking the pasta in the sauce to begin with and it wasn’t good! So I’d recommend cooking your pasta as normal in a pan and adding it to the sauce when it’s cooked. I think it’s worth the 10 minutes of having a saucepan on for a better result.

FAQs

Could you recommend a slow cooker?

My all-time favourite is the Morphy Richards Sear and Stew Slow Cooker. It’s really light and you can use it on the hob first if you need to. For an induction hob, I’d prefer Lakeland Digital 6.5l Slow Cooker.

Top tip: With this WiFi plug you can switch your slow cooker on remotely from your phone – the Tp Link Tapo Smart Plug!

Feta cheese: If you don’t like feta you could try a different cheese of your choice. I have used Boursin Garlic and Herb Cream Cheese before and it was amazing!

So easy and really delicious. Shame I now have to cut out dairy while breastfeeding my daughter as she has CMPA. Gutted!

    1. The one pot tomato pasta on the site has limited dairy, you could remove the Parmesan. Enjoy! 🙂

My family loved this recipe as we adore rich flavours. The feta in the pasta was just revolutionary! I did find the sauce was too acidic for our liking so next time I’ll cut out some of the balsamic but so so yummy!

  3. Are you putting in raw pasta and how long for? I can’t seem to see that info. Thanks so much x

    1. Hi Amy, no it’s cooked, I think it’s in point 3 of the instructions, we boil it separately. I tried cooking it in the sauce and it wasn’t good! I think it’s worth the 10 minutes of having a saucepan on for a better result. Enjoy 🙂
