Oh hello favourite breakfast!
I often used to make Baked Oats in an attempt to get organised and meal prep for the week ahead, but then I got out of the habit.
The need for some morning comfort food has brought me right back to these little pots of joy.
This healthy breakfast recipe is PERFECT for batch cooking and making ahead of time, meaning you get a great start to the day without the time or effort it takes to make a hearty breakfast.
Nothing sets you up quite like a delicious bowl of berry goodness and some slow release energising oats.
Why you’ll love this Baked Oats recipe
⭐️ Made with store cupboard ingredients
⭐️ Filling and healthy (no refined sugar)
⭐️ Basically feels like eating flapjack for breakfast!
How we came up with this recipe
We all know by now that starting off the day with fuel in the tank is good for us for so many reasons, but a busy family life can make it tricky to always have a decent breakfast, especially during the week.
I am always ALL about making ahead and batch cooking where possible for the days that we struggle for time, and that’s when I knew a recipe for Baked Oats was needed.
A lot of baked oats recipes involve banana to bind the mixture together, but I knew I wanted something that had no banana, was relatively sugar free (we do add 1 tsp of honey but you can even leave this out if you like) and was naturally sweetened by berries, because we can use fresh or frozen.
I also prefer the texture of oats and milk together, and the outcome of baking them is lovely and soft and spongy. The dollop of yoghurt on top also gives a creaminess you just can’t beat.
When I get the chance, I make up a batch for the week so I know that’s breakfast taken care of and I don’t have to think too much!
Baked Oats Ingredients Notes
- Oats – I have tested this recipe SO many times and find that rolled oats work so much better than whole oats. If you don’t have any to hand, you can put whole oats into a food processor and pulse them until they break down (try not to overdo this as you will end up with oat flour instead!)
- Berries – You can use fresh or frozen berries. If you are using frozen berries, you may need to cook the oats a little longer to ensure they are heated through. I like to choose mixed berries, or just blueberries or just raspberries
- Milk – Whole or semi-skimmed is fine, or a dairy alternative milk is too
How to make Baked Oats
- Mix your berries, egg, oats, milk, honey and baking powder together until combined.
- Pour into a small dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes in a preheated oven at 180C (fan) until golden and cooked though.
- If you would like, top with a spoonful of yoghurt, a couple of whole berries and a drizzle of honey.
Substitutions
- Flavourings – You can swap the mixed berries out for other fruits or nuts if you prefer. We love apple, raisin and cinnamon, or something like banana, almond and honey would work too. You could also add maple syrup or choc chips too
Make a batch
I often make a big batch of baked oats, keep them in the fridge and enjoy them every day for a week.
Can Baked Oats be reheated?
Yes! To reheat, pop them in the microwave for two minutes until they are hot throughout.
Can you eat Baked Oats cold?
This baked oats recipe is so easy you can make plenty in advance, bake in the morning or simply eat cold.
For those super organised people you can even make, bake and freeze!

FAQs
If you are short on time you can put the mixture into a microwave-safe mug or dish coated with a small amount of cooking spray and cook for about 5 minutes until hot throughout.
You can cook them in ramekins, small baking tins or even a muffin tin. If using a muffin tin, one portion shown in the recipe will make about 3 mini muffins. Be sure the grease the tin well with sunflower oil to stop the oats from sticking as they cook. The best way to release them from the tin is to allow them to cool for 5 minutes and then gently run a knife around each muffin,
Rolled oats work so much better than whole oats. If you don’t have any rolled oats to hand, you can put whole oats into a food processor and pulse them until they break down (try not to overdo this as you will end up with oat flour instead!).

Beautiful!! I used gluten free oats with blueberries and raspberries. I missed out the egg and they still worked out great!
Thank you for sharing this recipe ♥️.
I wasn’t expecting how good such an easy and versatile breakfast recipe idea could be!
I only had ripe pear & banana (used same amt. in weight as listed for the berries). I added all ingredients to my multi mixer to combine then poured the mixture into a thick* ceramic oven safe bowl and it was very moist and cake-like 🙂.
I baked it for 30+ 2 mins* (check for doneness, tester will come out clean).
I will definately be including this to my list of healthy breakfast ideas!
Thank you!
Made this morning! Soooo good! My twins didn’t want it but I made the 3 serves and separated into 4 serves.
I forgot to add- I baked them at 220 degrees Celsius for 22 mins and the consistency was very cake-like; moist and nice, with runny raspberries. Slight browning on too also. It did stick to my dish however, so i recommend using oil to prevent sticking
I eyeballed the proportions and used a 49g oats sachet and the consistency turned out amazing. I used egg whites (maybe 50ml?) and also added baking powder, which I think helped it rise quite a bit!
In conclusion i think you don’t need to measure out the ingredients if you want to save time ! Frozen raspberries worked very nicely for me also.
Hi. I was wondering if it would be posstto make enough for 4 in one large dish?
My new favourite breakfast! I used gluten free oats and it worked perfectly. Stirred through some frozen raspberries and had yoghurt and maple syrup on top – delicious. Thank you, Sarah! The only problem is my husband is stealing them haha.
Have to admit, I’ve never really been a big fan of baked oats but when I stumbled across this recipe, it looked so delicious that I had to try it. I used frozen blueberries instead of mixed fruit. It was so easy to make and turned out lovely. I served it with a bit of yogurt and a drizzle of honey. Delicious! Will make it again.
Had it for breakfast lovely would recommend the recipe to anyone.
Thanks so much for sharing
If using apple, do you cook the apple first please?
Do you have rough quantities for apple and raisin or apple and cinnamon? Something new to try! 😋
