Oh hello favourite breakfast!

I often used to make Baked Oats in an attempt to get organised and meal prep for the week ahead, but then I got out of the habit.

The need for some morning comfort food has brought me right back to these little pots of joy.

This healthy breakfast recipe is PERFECT for batch cooking and making ahead of time, meaning you get a great start to the day without the time or effort it takes to make a hearty breakfast.

Nothing sets you up quite like a delicious bowl of berry goodness and some slow release energising oats.

How we came up with this recipe

We all know by now that starting off the day with fuel in the tank is good for us for so many reasons, but a busy family life can make it tricky to always have a decent breakfast, especially during the week.

I am always ALL about making ahead and batch cooking where possible for the days that we struggle for time, and that’s when I knew a recipe for Baked Oats was needed.

A lot of baked oats recipes involve banana to bind the mixture together, but I knew I wanted something that had no banana, was relatively sugar free (we do add 1 tsp of honey but you can even leave this out if you like) and was naturally sweetened by berries, because we can use fresh or frozen.

I also prefer the texture of oats and milk together, and the outcome of baking them is lovely and soft and spongy. The dollop of yoghurt on top also gives a creaminess you just can’t beat.

When I get the chance, I make up a batch for the week so I know that’s breakfast taken care of and I don’t have to think too much!

Baked Oats Ingredients Notes

Overhead photo of ingredients for baked oats recipe, yoghurt, oats and eggs in a bowl with raspberries and blue berries on a white background.
  • Oats – I have tested this recipe SO many times and find that rolled oats work so much better than whole oats. If you don’t have any to hand, you can put whole oats into a food processor and pulse them until they break down (try not to overdo this as you will end up with oat flour instead!)
  • Berries – You can use fresh or frozen berries. If you are using frozen berries, you may need to cook the oats a little longer to ensure they are heated through. I like to choose mixed berries, or just blueberries or just raspberries
  • Milk – Whole or semi-skimmed is fine, or a dairy alternative milk is too

How to make Baked Oats

  1. Mix your berries, egg, oats, milk, honey and baking powder together until combined.
  2. Pour into a small dish.
  3. Bake for 30 minutes in a preheated oven at 180C (fan) until golden and cooked though.
  4. If you would like, top with a spoonful of yoghurt, a couple of whole berries and a drizzle of honey.

Substitutions

  • Flavourings – You can swap the mixed berries out for other fruits or nuts if you prefer. We love apple, raisin and cinnamon, or something like banana, almond and honey would work too. You could also add maple syrup or choc chips too

Make a batch

I often make a big batch of baked oats, keep them in the fridge and enjoy them every day for a week.

Can Baked Oats be reheated?

Yes! To reheat, pop them in the microwave and heat until they are hot throughout.

Can you eat Baked Oats cold?

This baked oats recipe is so easy you can make plenty in advance, bake in the morning or simply eat cold.

For those super organised people you can even make, bake and freeze!

Top tipS

How to cook Baked Oats in the airfryer

Simply cook them in an airfryer-safe container for about 15-18 minutes at 180C.

FAQs

Can you cook Baked Oatmeal in the microwave?

If you are short on time you can put the mixture into a microwave-safe mug or dish coated with a small amount of cooking spray and cook for about 5 minutes until hot throughout.

I made these this morning for my daughters. They wanted strawberry yoghurt and chocolate chips in them. I made them in cake cases and they were abit stuck to the bottom of the cake case but were VERY delicious. My daughters want me to make more tomorrow. I think next time I’ll just put them in an oven dish and cut them.

  2. Love the idea of these ! ( particularly as I need breakfast on the go that is still healthy and filling !
Sadly I’m dairy free and soya free – ( though not vegan )
What would you suggest replacing the yoghurt with ? I do have an oat yoghurt – which could be oat overload 😂😂

Yum! Really filling and comforting. I used 0% fat yoghurt so brought calories down to 212kcals. Still delicious. Thanks
