Servings: 6
- 30 g Cocoa powder
- 1 ltr Whole milk
- 300 ml Single cream
- 200 g Milk chocolate Broken into small pieces
- 2 tsp Vanilla extract
Mix the cocoa powder in a small bowl or mug with enough of the milk to make a smooth paste.
Add this paste along with all of the other ingredients in the slow cooker and mix until there's no cocoa paste lumps left.
Put the lid on, and cook on HIGH for 1-2 hours stirring occasionally or until the hot chocolate is thick and smooth.
Make the paste:
Try not to skip this part as it’s what stops the liquid becoming lumpy and it is tricky to get rid of them once they’ve formed!
Vanilla:
Be sure to use vanilla EXTRACT not ESSENCE. Extract is the natural, purer, stronger flavour.
Can I make this a boozy hot chocolate?
Add this to the hot chocolate at the end of the slow cooking time, just before you serve.
Stirring:
Stir occasionally to stop the chocolate from sticking to the bottom of the slow cooker.
Serve with:
My suggestions include whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles and gingerbread men on the side (oh, perhaps brandly or Baileys too!)
Can I make this if I don't have a slow cooker? Yes follow up to step 3 above; add everything to a large saucepan and cook over a low heat stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes
