This summer was definitely a tale of two halves for us. I so wanted my little pals to enjoy that last hurrah before they started school, that I stuffed every day with adventures and exploring and experiences. They loved it.
I, on the other hand, was a slightly broken woman. A combo of trying to fit three days a week work into zero childfree days and my slightly over zealous approach to summer fun left me happy, but exhausted. So, when right on cue my lovely client Optiwell got in touch and asked if we’d like to join them for a couple of days of rest and relaxation, we jumped at the chance.
Optiwell is a yoghurt drink with only 64 calories per glass, packed with protein and calcium, it contains no added sugar and is fat free. It’s a brilliantly handy, on the go snack to keep you going until supper time. (You can see lots of my Optiwell recipes and videos here: Optiwell.)
Optiwell really know their audience, they understand that busy Mums (and Dads) like me, don’t have heaps of time to think about snacks for themselves and often let hunger get the better of them. It’s a staple buy now in our house and the kids love it as much as I do. It really does keep me full at that 4pm dangerzone where I start reaching for the biscuit tin (damn you chocolate malted milk biscuits). They call this the Optiwell #ThankGoodness moment, and it really is.

Our invitation from Optiwell was for us to enjoy an end of summer #ThankGoodness moment at The Elms, Worcestershire. (You can win your own #ThankGoodness moment with a stay at a Luxury Family Hotel, by entering the competition below!)
From the moment we arrived, until the moment we left, this was the most wonderful event. The care and thought that had gone into every aspect was just fantastic. Not to mention the company. This group of bloggers were some of the loveliest, most inspiring women I could’ve wished to spend a couple of days with.
We laughed non-stop and all of our children played together so well. They were… Katie from MummyDaddyandMe, Katy from PoutingInHeels, Emma from BrummyMummyof2, Aby from YouBabyMeMummy and Alice from MoreThanToast.
The afternoon started with a delicious afternoon tea ready and waiting for us (including my Optiwell raspberry loaf cake!). We sat outside in the glorious sunshine, snacking on Optiwell and cakes chattering about our summer adventures.
Over the course of the afternoon, we all had beauty treatments arranged at the hotel spa. I opted for a mini facial, as did G and H had her nails painted. G was so proud of his soft face “TOUCH MY FACE MUMMY!” That boy loves him a bit of pampering.
After playing games and running around the orchard in the sunshine, the children were invited to learn to make their own supper in the outdoor kitchen. They made pizzas and Eton mess and dined at their own outdoor banqueting table.
It was so perfect, they absolutely loved it and we all stood and chatted slightly in awe of what a fun experience this was for our little ones.
After they had finished eating, we went to our rooms and got changed. Us ready for dinner and them ready to go to their very own pyjama party.
In The Elms own on site crèche, the wonderful nannies had arranged a full on party for them. Glitter tattoos, disco, sweeties and then a movie and popcorn. It was basically, a four year old’s dream night.
Meanwhile, the Mum’s enjoyed dinner together in a private dining room (including Optiwell cheesecake). There was chitchat and gossip aplenty and at the end, my face ached from laughing so much. Such a special night with amazing women.
The next morning, we woke up bright and early to squeeze in time for a little swim and a bit of a splash around.
It really was a #ThankGoodness moment for me. For four years I probably wouldn’t have braved taking both of them swimming alone. But there we were, all of us relaxed and happy, leaping about and no one drowned (result).
Isn’t it funny how you don’t really notice life getting that bit easier with little ones and then one day, it just kind of, is?
Later that morning, the children were super excited to take part in a treasure hunt around the hotel and some craft activities (using repurposed Optiwell bottles – excellent product placement!) Meanwhile, us Mums spent an hour or two leisurely drinking more tea, with more chat, soaking up the glorious rest and not wanting our time together to end.
The children returned, SO proud of their treasure hunt certificates and their creations. We enjoyed a lunch (complete with my Optiwell Blueberry Muffins!) before we packed up to leave.
As we left, the Optiwell team presented us all with the most thoughtful gifts. Really the icing on the cake of such an already special couple of days. I felt so privileged to be invited and the whole event was such an absolute treat, for both myself and the children.
It’s a pleasure to work with this lovely brand who really understand what life is like for busy parents. They definitely succeeded in giving us all a rest, and a couple of days full of #ThankGoodness moments. Thank you Optiwell!
