I’m a lapsed runner. I so want to be a runner and when I run regularly I feel like a real, grown up, runner. You know, picture myself like Paula Radcliffe (as I plod through my 2 mile stretch). However, the second the clocks go back each Autumn, my training shoes are firmly lost in the back of the wardrobe.
This year, I’m determined to stay on the running wagon. The icy ground and freezing fingers just do not help to motivate me, so I thought I’d share some inspiration here to remind me why I need to run, come rain or shine.
- Festive Feeding – Did you know it takes about 20 minutes running to burn off a mince pie? 40 minutes, twice a week would earn me a fairly respectable 4 mince pies a week during festive season. Really though, this is a time that we all overindulge and some balance in life means that hopefully my waistbands won’t be half as tight come January.
- Staying Christmas Sane – Over the holiday season, being cooped up in the house with the same people (no matter how much we love them) for 2 weeks can lead to disaster. Getting out and about and clearing my head and thinking of nothing but “Breathe! Breathe! Breathe!” during a running session works wonders for keeping relations calm and peaceful.
- Keeping Cool – Running in the hot weather can be totally suffocating sometimes, none of that in winter, no Sir-ee. Whilst it’s terrifying stepping out for a run in the freezing cold, the sight of icy breath whilst I get hot and bothered running is super satisfying. It allows me to run for longer or further without needing to carry water or, indeed, feeling like I’m going to die. Always a win.
- Resolutions – There really is something to be said for starting the year as you mean to go on. My running has lapsed this year, I really think if I can begin 2015 as I mean to go on, with some miles in the bank, I’ll be on track for the year ahead. That’s great motivation in itself isn’t it?
So there you go, someone remind me of these points when I’m moaning about near frost bite and soggy trainers will you please?
To help motivate me a little further, the lovely people at SportsShoes.com sent me some ace new kit (which I’m wearing in the photos). If you’re looking for some new gear to keep you on track for whatever is your fitness of choice, I can highly recommend them. They sell a huge selection of branded sportswear at discounted prices with brilliant service.
(The fleece I am wearing is the softest, cosiest one I’ve worn in ages. It’s a great fit for running as it has quite slim fitting arms. I love it! Nike Full Zip Fleece.)
Are you a fair weather runner? How do you keep fit in the cold days of winter? Is it just me that always seems to step into a puddle within 30 seconds of leaving the house?
My ace new running gear was provided by SportsShoes.com but all opinions are my own.
